The sector of spatial mobility is extremely broad. It covers companies dealing with safe, fast and environment-friendly transport of persons and goods, the optimisation of which is one of the biggest challenges of the 21^st century, as well as companies having other priorities. Spatial mobility also covers space industry which develops innovations related to manned and unmanned spaceflights and related technologies. It mainly focuses on the production of various devices and components of means of transport.

Lower Silesia is a region where automotive industry and aviation industry play a significant economic role. These industries are developing rapidly owing to the infrastructure and investment plots made available by special economic zones. It is chiefly related to investments made on a large scale by foreign market leaders, such as Volkswagen, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, Stiech, Faurecia Volvo, Borgers, Lufthansa, GKN Driveline, Mahle, Polaris, Danfoss or our Polish Jelcz. They find the province of Lower Silesian attractive because of vast labour market and the presence of many companies from the SME sector (small- and medium-sized enterprises). They start cooperation with SMEs which act as suppliers or subcontractors, thus forming a chain of cooperation driving further development of local economy.

SMEs have won new, close sales markets and perspectives for increasing exports of their products. They provide international companies with all types of production components and products necessary to ensure smooth operation of their plants from the perspective of logistics, expansion and renovation of their infrastructure. For companies providing IT or HR services, the presence of foreign investors is also an opportunity for growth.

What drives the spatial mobility sector in Lower Silesia are also R&D and business facilities. The Wrocław University of Science and Technology has highly-qualified research staff, conducts studies and educates students at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Mechanical and Power Engineering. Particular attention should be drawn to the specialisation of aviation engineering available in the field of mechanical engineering. Its graduates are specialists able to work with innovative projects from the sector, which also contributes to its development. Current and potential investors may use the attractive labour market. The University is also in the process of building the Centre for Aviation Research and Development of Wrocław University of Science and Technology in Lubin. The research facility will focus on innovations in the aviation industry, particularly the ones related to drones and the use of ecological energy sources.

In the province, as part of the Legnica Special Economic Zone, there are two clusters important for enhancing cooperation with companies from the sector – the Lower Silesian Automotive Cluster and the Lower Silesian Aviation Cluster. The role of business environment institutions, such as PORT and the Wrocław Technology Park, is also significant. They run projects supporting the development of companies and make research infrastructure available to them. For example, PORT has laboratory infrastructure allowing the development of devices for laser detection of gases in air, which is one of key safety elements in industry. WTP, on the other hand, offers facilities such as the Laboratory of Energetics or the Laboratory of Electronics, Mechatronics and Spintronics. ESA BIC, an entrepreneurship incubator of the European Space Agency, will soon launch its operations there.

All of this proves that Lower Silesia is an ideal place to pursue career goals, run a business and invest in market segments related to spatial mobility.
