Heavy Ions Research Center was founded in 1969 in Germany, near the city of Darmstadt. Basic researches  at GSI are centred around the impact of heavy ions with matter in the framework of nuclear physics, atomic, plasma physics, solid state and biophysics. Experiments performed at GSI also have to verify the principles of quantum electrodynamics, the study of heavy-ion beam interaction with living tissue or modify the properties of materials using radiation.

Projekt „Wielka nauka – kolejny etap procesu transferu technologii” jest współfinansowany z Unii Europejskiej, Europejskiego Funduszu Społecznego w ramach Programu Operacyjnego Kapitał Ludzki.
